Lillie was at a crossroads, on one hand, everything was going kind of according to plan. On the other, she really liked talking with the doctor.
Why was he thanking her? It was a simple compliment. Were people really so adverse about him that they wouldn't even pay the poor guy a compliment? "You don't need to thank me. I'm just being honest." He seemed surprised at her basic show of human decency. What had this guy lived through that he didn't expect to be treated so nicely?
"You shouldn't have been called worse. You're a pretty nice guy as far as I can tell." She was a great person. She didn't need to be talking to some weird old man on the beach, and yet here she was making his life better by talking to him. That was an amazingly nice thing to do. Or at least she thought so.
He pulled out his phone and offered to exchange numbers, score! Though she didn't want this guy to feel bad. Perhaps she could do a bit of both. Play with him and be his friend and eventually, she would decide if she wanted to get money from him and leave or stay and be his friend, but only one of them.
Lillie pulled her phone out from her bathing suit top, turning on her display as well. Her lock screen is a picture of her and her pokemon on their first day together. Oh, what a day that was. "Definitely! I would gladly join, especially if I can get stronger," She smiled back at him, and then he made her blush. What had he meant by not needing her in a bodyguard-type capacity? Had he meant- no. There was no way. But, Lillie played along, "You can count on me for that, Doctor." Lillie smirked a little. This was fun.
